Five songs that have absolutely nothing to do with Halloween, except for the fact that they were added on Halloween, check ‘em out!
SAM ROBERTS BAND - IF YOU WANT IT
Sam Roberts was born to South African immigrants in Montreal, Canada. Roberts was in a few bands, recorded a few solo EPs before finding a place with the Sam Roberts Band. To me, especially in the track “If You Want It”, Sam Roberts voice sounds like a fusion of Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker and Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo.
BRANCHES – BURN
Branches is a self-described “harmony-driven indie rock” band out of California. They have a really interesting sound that I dig. A good example of that sound is in the second add of this week “Burn”. It sounds pretty folky (probably why I like it so much; killer banjo grooves).
MONA - AIN'T IT SICK
The first release from Mona in 3 years is their new album In The Middle EP. A single from that new EP is “Ain’t It Sick”. “Ain’t It Sick” is a song that makes you want to rock out to, but at the same time chill to. Very difficult feeling to explain, as I also get serious Modest Mouse vibes from the band; you’ll just have to listen to understand.
JOHNNY FOREIGNER - FLOODING
Johnny Foreigner is not one fella, they are a four-piece indie rock band out of Birmingham, England. Their sound is kind of mellow punk. Not as hard as you’d think of punk to be, but they rock out. The single “Flooding” embodies that idea pretty well; here it is:
HAMISH ANDERSON – TROUBLE
Hamish Anderson started playing guitar at a very young age, and that is very evident in his playing style. Anderson’s tune “Trouble” sounds like a blast straight from the early 70s. Classic rock bands are very evidently an inspiration for Hamish Anderson.
Not any huge names in music in this weeks addition, but every act on the list has the potential to be. Grace and I agree that this is a week of low-key great sounding song. Be sure to listen to 95.7 The Spin for these new songs and check back next week for even more great music.
